The basic aim of these software projects is to provide the basic code needed to start open development in electron microscopy.
The overarching ambition is to provide a number of well focused software tools, each addressing a somewhat distinct need and user group. Development of these is already ongoing, please feel free to download and use what is published on these pages.
The development platform is C#, projects and code are hosted on visualstudio.com. For general enquiries and requests, please write to info@freemicroscopy.org
Micrograph
A free viewer of micrographs acquired with electron microscopes. It handles images and embedded metadata to display complete micrograph information, such as scale and intensity. For now, the software is focused on the multipage TIF file format with XMP metadata from point electronic GmbH. Support for OME-TIF file format from openmicroscopy.org is planned. Editing functions are not yet supported, but are being planned.
Microscan
A free control and acquisition software for scan generators and image acquisition modules for electron microscopy. The software includes configuration and launch of new scan jobs for SEM and STEM, including the necessary pre-scan, synchronisation, resolution and dwell time parameters. The targeted hardware platform is the USB-interfaced SEM acquisition module from point electronic GmbH, which is compatible with most electron microscopes. Code is not yet released.
Microscope
A planned free microscope control software for electron microscopes. The software project will take shape as progress is made with imaging software above, but the scope is full control of basic electron microscopes, starting with SEM and then extending to TEM/STEM. Target hardware is the USB-interfaced SEM and TEM controls electronics racks from point electronic GmbH. Current plans include control of the electronics required for routine microscope operation, including power suppliers, amplifiers and controllers.
